SUCCESS STORIES
Through microcredit with health education, poor rural women, in Arochukwu
- Abia State of Nigeria, who have no collateral or access to affordable
cash credit can take short term loans to invest in small business enabling
them to generate income and provide better health and nutrition for their
families.
Perhaps the most inspiring evidence of AAPI's positive impact can best
be expressed in the words of the women themselves.
Upon reading their stories below we hope that you, like us are heartened
by their strength and determination to succeed.

Mrs. Irene Uwah

"Before I joined AAPI, my business was not
growing because I could not buy enough bean flower to make enough
"Akara" to be profitable. With my first loan from AAPI,
I bought more bean flower and increased my production of 'Akara".
Now my business has expanded. In addition to frying "Akara",
I also fry yams and sell bread. I am now able to make more profit,
care for my children and set a little aside for my business to continue
to grow". |

Mrs. Ann Salami

"Over a year ago I join AAPI, with the loan
I received I started trading in various foodstuff. At the beginning
I had problems keeping track of my sales and costs. But AAPI staff
members worked with me and now I have learned to keep track of my
sales and costs. I also save a portion of my profit to enable my
business grow and to cover emergencies. Today I feel like a different
person, taking care of my family and responsible for my business."

Mrs. Esther Ufere

"Prior to joining AAPI over a year ago I
did petty trading in various items. With the loan I received from
AAPI, I concentrated on the items that generated the greatest profits.
Within a short time my profits increased many times over. Now I
buy and resell food items on a wholesale basis. I am able to earn
money to support my family. I am very proud that I can afford and
manage my store. I am also able to make a weekly savings to help
my business grow." |

Mrs. Katherine Okoronkwo
|
"Before AAPI started in our village we had
no where to borrow money, especially being a woman. I could only
afford to rear a few chickens. After I took my first loan I was
able to purchase more chicken. You can see for yourself how many
chickens I have now. Besides I have just sold a few grown up chickens.
My profit has increased and we can now eat better food with high
quality ingredient, even chicken sometimes" |

Mrs. Florence Okereke
|
"First I am grateful to AAPI for granting
me, and many other women like me, loans. When I got my first loan,
I started by selling vegetables. With profits from this business,
I was able to buy a pregnant goat. It soon delivered two more goats.
You can see how many goats I have now and I still sell vegetables.
AAPI has been wonderful to me, now my life is better. I wake up
every morning and I have something to look up to" |

Mrs. Agnes Ogbonnaya
|
"I heard about AAPI from a friend and I
applied for a loan to start a business selling foodstuff. I bought
various food items such as rice, beans, melon seed, tomatoes onions
etc. which I retailed in my neighborhood. My profits soon increased
and changed my life entirely. I feel very proud that I am able to
buy clothes for my children and also send them to school. I am looking
forward to receiving my next loan so that I can expand my business" |
